Tesla Recalls: Software and Safety Concerns for Electric Vehicles
As part of their compliance with the Vehicle Product Defect Management Regulations and the Administrative Provision on the Vehicle Product Defect Management Regulations, both Tesla (Shanghai) Limited Liability Company and Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Limited have submitted a recall plan to the National Market Supervision Administration, declaring to recall certain electric vehicles due to safety concerns.
Affected Vehicles: Model 3 and Model Y
As of immediately, Tesla will be recalling approximately 77,650 domestic Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, produced during the period between September 28, 2021, and November 22, 2024. The recall is due to software strategy-related issues that may cause certain models to fail to display monitored tire pressure readings after starting up, posing a safety risk.
Software Upgrade: Removing Safety Hazard
To rectify this issue, Tesla has announced that it will provide free software upgrades using the Over-the-Air (OTA) technology for these affected vehicles. Meanwhile, vehicle owners who are unable to receive OTA updates may be contacted individually from local service centers, where the necessary repairs will be carried out to remove the safety hazard.
Affected Vehicles: Imported Model S and X
Simultaneously, Tesla Automobile has announced a recall of approximately 63 imported Model S and Model X electric vehicles manufactured between November 20, 2024, and November 26, 2024. The recall is due to issues with the manufacturer's production process, which could result in the driver-side front airbag liner fabric being poorly assembled.
Safety Hazard
In extreme scenarios, this faulty assembly may cause the driver-side front airbag liner to rupture during a frontal collision, compromising its protective properties and significantly escalating the risk of injury. This presents an increased safety concern for all vehicle owners.
Repair Solution: Free Parts Replacement
To address this issue, Tesla Automobile has agreed to provide free replacements for faulty driver-side front airbags for these recalled vehicles.
All owners will receive recall notices via phone calls, SMS messages, and are encouraged to contact the designated customer service hotline to receive further information. Moreover, website notifications on samrdprc.org.cn, www.recall.org.cn, as well as the 'SAMRDPRC' WeChat public account can also provide additional details, allowing motorists to report any defect or risk-related issues.
