New Energy Vehicle Sales for Chinese Car Manufacturers in January 2025

The China Association of Automotive Manufacturers (CAAM) has announced the latest sales data for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in January 2025. Biyi, Gili Automobile and Chang'an Automobile took the top three spots, with Gili Automobile's sales leading the pack at 121,071 units.

Meanwhile, BYD remains ahead of all other manufacturers, with a total of 296,446 NEV units sold. Tesla is the only overseas brand to make it into the top five, ranking fifth and sixth respectively for Chery Automobile and Geely Suzhou.

The seventh to ninth places are dominated by new energy brands such as Peugeot, SAIC Motor, and Weilung Motors (also known as Leap Motor Group), with Peugeot beating out Leap and Weilung to take top spot. Changhe Automobile ranks tenth, showing a significant increase in NEV sales.

New energy vehicle manufacturers continued to gain ground on the second tier of the rankings list, with brands such as Xiaomi (new energy brand), Sea Leslie, and EAn leading the pack.

In contrast, foreign brands lags behind in terms of overall sales, while traditional fuel-based vehicles remain top-sellers.
