Tesla Unveils New Model Y with Significant Updates

A new generation of the popularModel Y has officially begun rollout, marking a significant milestone for the electric vehicle manufacturer.

TheModel Y is categorized as a mid-size SUV and was previously announced to come in two variants at prices of RMB 26.35 million and RMB 30.35 million respectively. According to high-ranking executives within Tesla, both a high-performance version and a seven-seat variant are expected to be released around the end of 2025.

Upon inspection, the most noticeable update on the newModel Y is its updated frontend featuring a three-piece wrap-around headlamp configuration, combining with separate fog lamps that merge in with a 'C' shape. The central front grille was retained and enhanced with an enclosed shutter design, accompanied by a lower air intake opening. While maintaining the minimalist aesthetic, there has been some emphasis on adding driving dynamism to the Model Y.

In terms of colors, Tesla offers five car paint options: Celestial Gray (free), Pearl White (RMB 8,000), Frost Blue (new option, RMB 8,000), Deep Red (RMB 12,000), and Silver Seas (RMB 12,000).

When viewed from the side, the new Model Y retains its existing design. The vehicle's dimensions remain unchanged at 4797/1920/1624mm with a wheelbase of 2890mm, increasing in length compared to its predecessor by 47mm. Additionally, there has been optimization of wind resistance levels down to 0.22 and the incorporation of eight cameras across the board, including an additional one positioned below the driver's side front bumper to help monitor blind-spots.

The newModel Y is also available with either a 19-inch 'Interactively Swirl' wheel or a 20-inch 'Swirling Vortex' wheel.

Upon observing the rear end of the vehicle, the first thing noticeable are its wrap-around headlamps which employ Tesla's proprietary reflex technology to yield an exceptional level-of-visibility. In particular noteworthy is the sensor-enabled opening mechanism for the aft compartment, enabling it to automatically open with slight stopping at the vehicle's rear end.

Inside, the exterior remains minimalist in design, maintaining a clean user interface. Its feature stand-out piece of information for now includes a 15.4-inch touchscreen at its center surrounded by AMD Ryzen chip and developed-in-car computing system. A classic set-up to include a triple-acting multi-functional steering wheel and integration into functions such as the windshield washer, along with gear changes situated on a display mounted below.
