Ford to Establish New Electric Vehicle Factory in Shanghai
Ford Motor has decided to build a new electric vehicle (EV) factory in Shanghai, primarily producing Lexus-branded vehicles. The factory will be 100% owned by Ford.
Construction on the new facility is set to begin soon after land acquisition was confirmed for Shanghai. The plant is expected to start production around 2027 and will primarily serve China's market.
The news about Ford establishing a factory in Shanghai has been circulating since this summer, when negotiations were still ongoing. Lexus plans to use local components in its vehicles with an efficiency rate of over 95%.
This information was revealed after reports surfaced about Ford potentially building a new EV factory in the city earlier this year, prior to finalizing talks.
Shanghai is slated to receive several models from Toyota to manufacture at their new Factory as well.
