China's Automobile Exports See Record-Breaking Growth in 2024, Totaling $117.3 Billion
BEIJING, CHINA - December 31, 2024 - In a significant milestone for the nation's automotive industry, the country's exports of complete vehicles totaled approximately 6.407 million units in 2024, representing a year-on-year growth rate of 22.7% and reaching $117.3 billion, an increase of 15.5% compared to 2023.
Regarding new energy vehicle (NEV) exports, the figure surpassed 12.84 million units in 2024, with a year-over-year expansion rate of 6.7%.

In terms of ranking, Chery Automobile took the lead with 114.4 million units by surpassing its second-place competitor. Despite being impacted by EU tariffs, MG brand parent company SAPA Group fell to the second place but still achieved 92.9 million units in total sales for the year; plans were announced to build a factory in Europe. Ranking third through fifth are long-established Chinese manufacturers: Chery (53.6 million units), Geely (53.2 million units), and Great Wall Motors (45.3 million units). Following them in order were BYD Automotives, Tesla, Jianghuai Automobile, Guangshi Automobile, and Dongfeng Group.

The ranking by individual brand shows Chery Automobile as the leading export, with an increase of 23% year-over-year to account for 88,151,400 units. In contrast, MG saw a decline in its sales by 27.6% reaching 46,094,200 units and becoming second place; meanwhile BYD Automotives saw an impressive growth rate exceeding 67%, with the brand recording 40,578,600 units.
The top ten export brands of automotive brands are generally showing accelerated sales rates - not only among local Chinese manufacturers but also by international companies. The significant rise in exports, which accounts for a major part of China's automobile industrial development, indicates an overall growth trend in the country's automobile industry.
