Tesla IssuesRecalls for Millions of Vehicles Over Safety Concerns
Tesla's Chinese and Beijing offices have filed a plan to recall vehicles with the National Market Supervision Administration, citing defects in software management regulations. The recalls impact two models: the Model S, Model X, and domestically-made Model 3 or Model Y, as well as some Model 3 and Model Y made in China.
Approximately 335,716 vehicles, produced between July 16, 2023, and December 14, 2024, are affected. In these vehicles, the reverse current flow when turning on the headlights may damage the vehicle's power module for the rearview camera system, leading to an incorrect display of rear images during reversing maneuvers.
This can potentially put drivers at risk, as they will have difficulty seeing behind their vehicles while driving backwards. Tesla will replace the faulty electronic components with upgraded versions through their remote upgrade technology (OTA), which is free for affected vehicles.
For those vehicles that cannot be updated using OTA, owners will need to visit a local service center where a technician will assist them in updating software or exchange the damaged module at no additional cost to the owner.
A second batch of 872,087 units across Model 3 and Model Y produced between January 3, 2022, and September 23, 2023, are also being recalled due to an issue with the electronic assistance turn assist (EASA) system software. If this software malfunctions, drivers may experience a limited version of EASA assistance, thus leading to increased risk during driving maneuvers involving left or right turns.
This second phase is part of an ongoing investigation initiated by the National Market Supervision Administration, and affected clients will receive notification through phone calls, messages sent via SMS number or another form of official communication. Users may also contact Tesla's customer service hotline at 400-910-0707 via mobile call or fixed phone line to inquire further about this service center.
