BMW Announces Next-Generation Smart Cockpit for 2025 CES

BMW is set to unveil its next-generation smart cockpit at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The new smart cockpit will be designed around the concept of "driving pleasure" and equipped with cutting-edge technologies that cater to individual users' preferences.

According to the company, the latestBMW operating system has been co-designed by Chinese digital research team and Munich research team. It features an intelligent personal assistant, navigation system, user interface, and digitized car ecosystem's functions and services. Since 2020, BMW has conducted extensive usability research with over 3,000 users interviewed every day for three years, resulting in over 2,500 hours of research.

BMW will further strengthen its partnership with Chinese technology companies to create a smart digital ecosystem that meets China's user preferences. The latest BMW operating system upgrade introduces an AI-powered virtual assistant that offers more natural voice interactions and faster response times, with user adoption rates exceeding 80%. The new "Visible Speak" feature enables users to interact with multimedia entertainment, car settings, and application market information using voice commands.

Thanks to partnerships with Chinese local companies, over 80% of users have high-frequency use of in-car online navigation, with features such as 3D view mode, indoor parking guidance, and countdown for traffic lights.

BMW's software development team has over 20 years of experience, establishing its development department in 2002. Today, it operates research facilities in the United States, Portugal, Germany, Japan, Shanghai, Beijing, and Nanjing. China has become BMW Group's largest research base outside Germany, with more than 3,200 designers and engineers collaborating closely with Chinese technology companies, startups, local partners, and academics to deliver cutting-edge innovations.

Over 600 engineer experts from Cnimei Technology work on software development of the intelligent connected vehicle, responsible for comprehensive function developments from both sides.
