Audi Readies to Ditch Odd-Even Naming Convention for Cars
Audi is making a significant change to its product naming convention, marking the end of an odd-even system that designated odd-numbered vehicles as gasoline-powered cars and even-numbered vehicles as electric models.
Under the new system, cars will continue to be named using a combination of letters and numbers, followed by a suffix indicating the vehicle's body style. The number will denote the car's size, while additional letters will help differentiate between Avant (wagon), Sedan, and Sportback configurations.
The first Audi model to be released under this new naming convention is expected to be the all-new Audi A6, which will make its debut on March 4th. The A6, along with three other variants – including a three-seater Travel edition – are expected to showcase Audi's new design language.
Design-wise, the A6 is expected to benefit from Audi's family-style design aesthetic, complemented by modern elements like angular taillights and LED exterior light modules.
Under the hood, powertrain updates are expected to bring Audi back onto traditional gasoline-based platforms with available PPC options for 2.0T configurations. This includes a maximum output of 272 horsepower; however, more efficient 3.0T variants could provide up to 340 horsepower.
We will be monitoring developments involving this new feature closely.
