China Unveils the New Tank 500 Hi4-Z Electric SUV
The highly anticipated new model, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z electric SUV, is set to go on sale on January 1st, 2025. Pre-sales for the new vehicle have generated significant interest, with a starting price of 37.98 yuan (approximately $5,350 USD). The model is positioned as a mid-to-large-sized plug-in hybrid SUV, offering better power and fuel economy compared to its predecessor, Tank 500 Hi4-T.
In terms of design, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z shares a similar exterior and interior with its sibling model, with a sleek and large presence. The new vehicle measures 5078 x 1934 x 1905mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2850mm. The approach and departure angles are set at 29° and 24°, respectively, while the minimum ground clearance is 210mm.
Inside, the vehicle boasts an impressive range of features, including a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, an overhead display system, a 14.6-inch multimedia center screen, and advanced connectivity options via the Coffee OS 3.0 intelligent seatscape. The front and rear seats offer heating and ventilation functions, while the front seat also comes with massage functionality.
Under the hood, the Tank 500 Hi4-Z features a non-steel unibody chassis, powered by a 2.0L T engine coupled with an all-wheel electric drive system featuring dual motors in both front and rear axles, totaling a system output of 863Ps (645kW) and a maximum torque of 1195N·m. The new vehicle will be equipped with a 59.05kWh battery pack, which promises improved range capabilities.
In particular, the tank’s double-motor all-wheel drive propulsion system features advanced technology such as an integrated six-speed CVT box designed for both on-road driving and high-speed highway cruising. A unique characteristic of the Hi4-Z is its dual-drive transmission and motor arrangement, combining to deliver impressive 0-100km/h performance in just 4.6 seconds.
In another innovative approach to tackle challenging terrain conditions, the suspension system retains a traditional multi-link frame design for rear axle support, providing added safety during high-speed cruising and excellent off-road handling capabilities.
The tank offers multiple advanced technologies such as an efficient energy recovery through regenerative braking for enhanced driving dynamics, improved performance and reduced wear on engine.
