October 27, marked a significant milestone in the development of China's emerging aviation industry, as global automotive company XPeng Motors officially broke ground on its cutting-edge manufacturing facility in the Guangzhou Development Zone.
Located within the designated area, the 10 million unit-per-year XPeng Motor Guangzhou Manufacturing Base will primarily be utilized for the production of the modular electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft "Land-Hero," also referred to as the "land-aviation mother." The factory's comprehensive design aims to meet the stringent requirements of both aviation and automotive industries, ultimately delivering enhanced quality consistency, lower costs, and faster delivery timelines.
Following a successful unmanned test flight recently completed by Xiaopeng Motors' Land-Airbase program, XPeng Motor plans to conduct its first public maiden flight for "Land-Hero" at this year's China Airshow on November 12. The company anticipates starting deliveries of the aircraft towards the end of the current year and has already launched a pre-sale campaign for the aviation product.
Built with the comprehensive collaboration of CMG Development Limited, which acts as project supervisor during its early stage of planning according to preliminary data, the entire facility has an initial planned size of 180 thousand square meters featuring a layout of production lines, tool stores, storage areas, and auxiliary facilities. By implementing advanced manufacturing techniques while adhering to automotive practices the Xiaopeng Motors Land-Hero project can achieve better uniformity in quality performance as well lower operational costs compared to traditional manufacturing processes within aviation industries.
