New Mercedes GLB's Overseas Spy Shots Reveal Platform, Models, and Design
The latest spy shots of the new Mercedes GLB reveal that the upcoming model will be based on the Modular MFA platform, which will provide a range of options including pure electric and light hybrid variants.
Significantly, this new car not only replaces the current GLB but also takes its place alongside the EQB, signaling a substantial reboot for both models. The new GLB is expected to make its public debut in 2026.
The front-end design bears a similarity with the Mercedes GLC, featuring sleek headlights with an angular frame. The standard LED daylight running lights have been retained but may feature modifications that differentiate it from current GLB and EQB models. A panoramic sunroof has also been placed on top of the vehicle.
In terms of rear styling, the latest spy shots show a more condensed design compared to previous releases, featuring peculiar smart car-like appearance features in the tail lamps. Features at the side include a two-bar LED light setup that is reminiscent of some modern Mercedes models, with driver beam lights situated in between these bars, alongside standard indicators and reversing lights.
Powering the electric variants will be front and rear dual electric motors achieving powers of 200kW for the high-performance model and 280kW for its lower-power counterpart, potentially paired with an 85kWh battery. This would promise an estimated maximum range of 750 kilometers. The hybrid variant features a 1.5L inline-four cylinder powered by an electromechanical gearbox that produces peak power of 136/163/190 kwh in the respective levels. It also offers both dual-wheel drive and four-wheel-drive options alongside its flagship AMG variant.
