Surviving Polar Night: 70.3% Success Rate for Continued Flight at -20°C with Deep Blue S05 in First Winter Test

Deep Blue S05: China's Flagship EV Delivers on Winter Testing

In a significant milestone for China's electric vehicle (EV) market, the new Deep Blue S05 has emerged as a top contender in winter testing, showcasing its exceptional capabilities in various aspects. The test focused on the vehicle's performance during cold climate conditions, including battery range, charging efficiency, and passenger comfort.

Test Environment

To ensure an accurate representation of China's winter conditions, two distinct testing zones were chosen – Jin-Jin-Ji (North China Plain) for low-temperature regions, which are representative of the country's north-south divide, and Hulun Buir, Inner Mongolia, serving as a cold zone to simulate some of the harshest possible scenarios. The Deep Blue S05 underwent rigorous testing in both zones.

Test Results: Low-Temperature Condition

In the low-temperature condition test at Jin-Jin-Ji, where temperatures ranged between -15°C and -20°C, the Deep Blue S05 demonstrated its capacity to traverse long distances with incredible efficiency. After extensive high-speed driving, followed by moderate and then low-speed segments, the vehicle successfully completed 109 kilometers on charging alone.

In terms of fuel (gasoline) consumption for pure electric mode:

  • Cold Zone: 23.28kWh/100km
  • Fuel Consumption for Supplemental Charging in Pure Electric Mode at Low Speeds: 6.44L/100km

Moreover, in the low-speed segment where a battery capacity reverse charge had taken place at 18%, after only a 28 kilometers of drive, we reach back our initial levels at 38%. This demonstrates that the S05 is very well suited for long-range trips.

In addition, testing confirmed that charging times for Deep Blue S05 to get fully energized take the following approximate values:

  • Cold Zone: 80 minutes
  • Warm-Up Zone: 40 minutes

Test Results: High-Temperature Condition

At Jin-Jin-Ji's warmer zones and through a series of tests from the city of Jinzhou to Tianjin, Deep Blue S05 further demonstrated its well-rounded attributes in winter performance. In the warmest conditions and after covering moderate driving times:

  • Maximum temperature 34°C reached during testing.
  • A total average cost for fuel consumption at the supplemental charging stage came out as very low: 3.9kWh/100km
