Geely Announces Ambitious New Energy and AI Strategy for 2025
In a high-profile speech at the 2025 Group Operating Conference, Geely Automobile Group Chairman, Li Shufu, unveiled an ambitious plan to revolutionize the company's vehicle lineup and take leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The group's new energy product lineup is expected to launch with five all-new electric vehicles, as well as two hybrid-electric models featuring the latest "super-ethanol" (SHEV) technology. With sales targets aiming for over 1 million units for the year, Geely aims to reinvigorate its market presence.
At the heart of Geely's new energy strategy is the innovative SHEV technology. This cutting-edge system enables vehicles to adapt seamlessly between ethanol and gasoline fuel sources from a single fuel tank. The global-exclusive technology features Geely's advanced low-temperature cold-starter motor, capable of starting engines in extremely cold conditions and achieving record-breaking efficiency levels of up to 48.15%.
In addition, CEO Li shufu has emphasized the company's commitment to AI technology. Following the successful integration of the DeepSeek R1 supercomputer model into its flagship Geely Starui model – the latest collaboration with Chinese AI solution provider Deep Seek – Geely is poised to reveal a revolutionary new AI strategy in March 2025.
By leveraging its advancements in DeepSeek, Geely will redefine the user experience and drive smarter, more intuitive interactions between drivers and vehicles. In January 2024, Geely had unveiled the world’s first comprehensive "smart vehicle global AI" technology framework, encompassing consumer-centric offerings for B2C markets, enterprise-focused B2B services, as well as aerial domains.
This year, Geely aims to accelerate adoption of its AI portfolio with cutting-edge applications spanning in-car voice models and higher-value digital plattforms. A broader goal is to pave the way for mass-market access to high-end intelligent drives enabled by AI technology solutions.
