Warning: Pressurized Electric Batteries in Polestar Plug-In Hybrids Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Volkswagen Recalls China-Made Plug-in Hybrids for Electrical Problem

The Chinese subsidiary of Volkswagen, Zhejiang Haocheng Automotive Manufacturing Co. Ltd., and the affiliates Volvo Shanghai, have informed the State Administration for Market Regulation that they will be recalling two types of electric vehicles due to a manufacturing issue with the high-pressure fuel cell.

A total of 11,009 cars will be recalled globally, comprising four models:

  • China-made XC60 plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (4420)
  • China-made S90 plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (4544)
  • China-made S60 plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (1795)
  • Imported CX90 Plug-in Hybrid-Electric Vehicles from Sweden (2969)

The reasons behind the recalls are:

  • High-pressure fuel cells produced within a certain production period may have internal short circuits that cause thermal loss, posing potential safety risks.

Recall Series:

  1. S2025M0043V series: Made in China, XC60 plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles, manufactured between September 25, 2019 and November 22, 2021 (Total of 4,420 cars)

  2. S2025M0044V series:

    • Plug-in hybrid electric S90 vehicles with Chinese production, made from October 10, 2019 to November 23, 2021 (totalling 4544), and

    • China-made plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicles made between January 6th, 2020 - November 29th, 2021 for S60 vehicles, with a total of 1795 units

  3. S2025M0045V series: Imported plug-in hybrid electric CX90 vehicles made in Sweden, produced from September 2nd, 2019 to October 19th, 2021 (a total of 2969 vehicles)

All these vehicles are subject to a recall because high-pressure fuel cells in the cars may have internal short circuits that can lead to thermal loss. In extreme cases this could cause an electric device meltdown, posing serious safety risks.

Action Plan:

In order to address these recalls:

  • Authorized dealers will inspect for faults and replace faulty components at no cost to users of affected vehicles.

There are several steps to be taken here: * High Pressure Electric battery modules would be free replaced for customers who have the affected cars. * All owners of affected versions will receive a notice via their license plate number through official mail and phone calls by licensed service providers * Authorized dealers shall contact owners of the relevant vehicles in advance to schedule the necessary repairs.

Please note, there are some specific rules regarding all this work, if you need more details check the full regulation provided here.
