New BMW i3 Model Teased, Offers Impressive Design and Performance Updates
A series of leaked photos have revealed the upcoming new BMW i3 model, codenamed NA0, which is based on the Neue Klasse platform. This will be the second vehicle to utilize this platform after the iX3.
The new car's design has been heavily influenced by the Vision Neue Klasse concept car, featuring a bold double grille and integrated headlamps that fuse together on either side of the front bumper.
Notably, the rear design boasts a distinctive boxy style reminiscent of older BMW models. The front wings have an expanded shape, highlighting the vehicle's robust stance. In contrast to current trends showing curved rooflines, this new i3 has adopted a more angular design, particularly in its C-pillars and with potential nods to classic BMWs featuring numbers on the "5" series.
Interestingly, the rear bumper employs a straight-edged approach while incorporating an advanced LED lighting system that would later be seen in production models. Furthermore, BMW's patented Hofmeister kink, characteristic of their classic designs, remains intact, possibly with modern variations similar to those found in the 5 Series.
Although interior specifications were not gained this time around, concept cars built on the Neue Klasse platform showed a minimalist aesthetic while enhancing smart technologies such as touch-sensitive screens, steering wheel controls, and a see-through hood (HUD) that expands from the center console to the front windshield area. Physical buttons are absent in these concept interiors.
On powertrain fronts, the upcoming i3 should come equipped with 800V architecture, entering mass-market vehicles for the first time. Entry-level models will offer over 300 horsepower, a significant increase from past standards, especially when you consider the battery density's 20% boost and improvements in aerodynamics, advanced drivetrain technologies, and sophisticated software optimizations that enhance efficiency to extend its range by up to 30%.
It is crucial for potential customers and enthusiasts of electric vehicles like the BMW i3 brand to be aware of new releases as they come out.
