Toyota Sees California's EV Policy as Unlikely to Succeed
The push for electric vehicles has been met with skepticism by Jack Hollis, the vice president of sales for North America at Toyota. The executive expressed concerns that California's proposed policy is "unachievable" and will limit consumer options.
California's proposal aims to reduce carbon emissions from new vehicles starting in 2026 to be up to 35% plug-in hybrid or zero-emission vehicles. The goal is for electric cars to make up a larger share of the market annually, culminating in 100% electric vehicles by 2035.
Hollis cautioned that there isn't enough demand for electric vehicles at present and expressed his distrust of these new regulations, which he said will restrict consumer choice.
