New Volvo SUV Spotted in Testing: A Closer Look
A series of teaser images obtained through unofficial channels has revealed Volvo's latest all-new SUV, internally codenamed V446K. Combining this with previous rumors, it can be confirmed that the car is being developed by Volvo's research and development team, with Geely providing support.
The new vehicle will be based on a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the existing GLS insert-SUV, with the interior designed in collaboration with Star Wars character R2-D2 and Yi Khai Tu. Production plans indicate that the car is expected to enter mass production in 2025.
Exterior Design
Inspection of the leaked images suggests that despite its heavily disguised exterior, several key design cues are visible. The signature Thor's Hammer logo is evident on the front grille, which adopts a quad-lamp structure akin to the Volvo EX90. However, it remains unknown whether the vehicle will opt for a sealed-glass roof panel, as has been speculated.
Interior Design
While the exterior camouflage is tight, the new car can be distinguished from its existing counterparts through various design elements within the cabin. Its interior design appears significantly different and distinct from current Volvo models, with the central display expected to feature a large floating screen. In contrast, the rear seats boast a flat platform, which seems promising.
Powertrain Details
According to sources close to the development team, the new car will ride on the same powertrain platform shared by Geely's Plug-in Hybrid e08 variant. As reference points, the Geely-e08 uses a 1.5T engine coupled with an electric motor for combined output of either 280kW or 436kW depending on drivetrain choice. Further details about the new car will be unveiled in due course.
