BMW Unveils Next-Generation 5 Series with Fresh Design and Cutting-Edge Tech
A combination of spy shots has given us a glimpse into the forthcoming 2027 BMW 5 series, which is expected to be a mid-life facelift model.
Designing-wise, BMW's latest 5 series boasts an all-new front face that incorporates the Neue Klasse design language. The front apron features horizontal slats on either side of the grille, creating a striking visual impact even when partially hidden by exterior elements. Below this sits a single inlet for the air intake, contributing to the front-end's aggressive appearance.
Moving onto the sides, the car is distinguished by five wheels with distinct wheel arch covers featuring an array of parallel spokes. Compared to domestic 5 series versions, these foreign-market units exhibit more pronounced contours and sportier undertones.
Turning our gaze toward performance, it appears that this model is not entirely set in its classifications, as indicated by a unique European-registered label number "E." Typically reserved for electric and hybrid vehicles, BMW has adopted elements here without providing any clear insight into electric mobility. Instead, there exists an intriguing potential: the fact that they are not displaying yellow color highlighting under the battery modules might leave room to speculate about fuel source - possibly even a high-tech petrol/electric-hybrid system.
In light of overseas 530e and 550e iterations, our interpretation can be enhanced further with reference. The former model utilizes both a gasoline motor of 2 liters combined with an electric drive unit totaling around 300 horsepower and ranges approximately up to 103 miles under electric propulsion alone. Meanwhile, its larger sibling xDrive 550e, paired with the same set-up yet boasting an astonishing 496 horsepower total - only available for the front-wheels version.
