BYD Tang L Makes Global Debut

BYD's latest flagship SUV, Tang L, officially hit the market yesterday and is set to compete with its existing Tang model in terms of sales. Targeting the 20 million-class domestic SUV segment, the Tang L will be positioned as a high-end vehicle.

Compared to the current Tang model, which has been part of BYD's lineup for some time, the Tang L boasts unique design features and impressive performance capabilities. With a length of 5040mm and a wheelbase of 2950mm, the SUV is designed with three rows of seating. The power unit is powered by a powerful hybrid system.

In terms of exterior design, BYD's engineers have adopted a new "Loong Face" design language, characterized by the use of split-lamp fronts, thin DRLs that light up more aggressively when turned on, and active air ducts inspired by windmills. An electrostatic hood scoop is also featured on top of this exterior element.

Moving to the C-pillar section, BYD's existing Tang model continues with its soft and gentle linearity whereas shoulder lines incorporate a single curved stroke in order to emphasize it, and its body measures 5040/1996/1760mm while a set of special twenty-inch low-bling wheel set is available.

When it comes to the rear part of the car design, the classic "竹韵" (bamboo chime) named scheme has been chosen that takes inspiration from Chinese traditional craftsmanship - this element was introduced on its own prior to the official sales release. Four different colors have been set at the core for some time: luoyuan silver, meitu green, dong quan grey and you yan black.

With a design philosophy centered around the "dantian" concept, BYD's designers will introduce a sense of inner balance while creating its interior. Also by applying bamboo and wooden panel designs, it achieves mid-range luxury style while integrating all kinds of comfort functions such as climate control and lighting function in general. Furthermore it is integrated to an AR-HUD system combining LCD instrument cluster and smart screen for ease of access to smartphone features etc.

The third row seat features true leather upholstery that are arranged with "2+3+2" seating options, where front seats can be pre-adjusted for temperature, ventilation, massage, memory functions. Second-row chairs also enjoy advanced features like heated ventilation and massaging. Back seats come in a simple platform form when lifted up to create an even seat.

When it comes to performance, BYD Tang L has been equipped with fifth-generation DM Hybrid, as well as plug-in hybrid technology that combines its power capabilities. Front-wheel-drive model may have maximum torque output of 115kW while Rear electric motor's power is at a fixed value of up to 480kW in addition to the new battery packs made from a blade-edge design where 100KWH capacity makes great room for growth.

In terms of chassis configuration, it combines with front Mcferson and rear multi-link suspensions. Moreover by fitting on an advanced aerodynamics system named Cloud agi-C which helps bring out even more agility performance

ByD also expects Tang L will take place alongside existing Tang model that is priced at 2.48 million CNY.
