Mercedes-Benz Introduces electric G-Class and EQE at Guangzhou Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil its all-new, fully electric versions of the iconic G-Class and EQE models at this year's Guangzhou Motor Show. The electric G-Class and EQE are expected to begin production in November.
The electric G-Class has been open for bookings since now, with a starting price tag of CNY 217,000 (approximately USD 32,500). In contrast, the four-wheel-drive version of the Eqe, which is scheduled to make its global debut at this year's Guangzhou Motor Show, could potentially mark the first time we see it.
Starting off as an electric version, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class will be powered by a 4-motor setup with each motor matched to two-speed gearboxes. This provides combined output of 432 kW (588 hp) and a peak torque rating of 1164 Nm. With its powerful performance, we can expect an acceleration time of 0-100 km/h within 4.9 seconds, along with an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.
Another exciting feature of the electric G-Class is the ability to use a vectorial torque distribution with “sion” technology, enabling its electronic virtual differential lock functionality. The full-spec model will have an available total capacity of 122kWh lithium-ion battery units, estimated to give up to 571 km in terms of CLTC range.
Further, the vehicle includes fast-charging capabilities that, via quick charging, can achieve a travel distance of approximately 170km within just 15 minutes. Moreover, due to its lightweight composition, made with combined carbon materials and ensuring safety from impact, this full electric car manages even demanding off-road terrain effectively.
