5 Key Reforms to Boost China's Green Governance and AI Safety at the 2 Sessions

China Seeks to Boost Auto Industry with New Regulations and Suggestions

As the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) convened its third session on March 4, Xiao Mi Group's founder, Lei Jun, unveiled five key suggestions aimed at accelerating the development of the auto industry in China.

Enhanced Auto Labeling and Design

According to a recent study, China's new energy vehicle products "魅力指数研究" (attractiveness index), consumers have increasingly favored personalized car color options. A whopping 26% of those who purchased cars with unique body colors stated that color as their most preferred aspect, surpassing traditional vehicle hues.

The report also noted that green-colored license plates and vehicle bodies exhibit poor compatibility, resulting in lower breakthroughs in product design. Since the launch of new energy vehicles' license plate testing about eight years ago, China has significantly improved its overall design levels, with exterior colors becoming more diverse and personalized.

Lei Jun recommends revisiting the research and consultation process for new energy vehicle label designs, incorporating public feedback to refine their performance.

Expanding Smart Label Features

Furthermore, Lei suggests that various departments should accelerate efforts to integrate smart labeling features into new energy vehicles. This includes incorporating transportation information cards into license plates with increased functional capacity and introducing a two-dimensional code for easy access of detailed information.

Additionally, he proposes conducting thorough trial operations in cities that are at the forefront of automotive development, focusing on feedback channels to gather user opinions and incorporate them into future design endeavors.

Countering AI-Related Abuse

However, the increasing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced significant challenges for governance. "AI换脸拟声" (deepfake-generated audio), in particular, has become a widespread form of intellectual property theft.

Lei Jun suggests two primary strategies to tackle this issue:

Firstly, he proposes introducing legislation that tackles these specific concerns more effectively. This includes exploring the possibility of passing strict regulations on AI technology utilization and implementing more precise measures for investigating such crimes.

Secondly, Lei recommends leveraging industry self-regulation through better collaboration between various stakeholders, including platform companies and other enterprise entities. They should develop advanced data recognition technologies to identify intellectual property misuse.

Lastly, he proposes emphasizing the importance of educating citizens about media literacy and incorporating ethical principles into AI development.

By addressing these suggestions, China aims to strengthen its stance against "AI换脸拟声" abuse and push forward a more harmonious relationship between technology advancement and human well-being.
