Behind the Wheel: First Look at China's Latest Plug-In Crossover - 500km Range Revealed

Toyota Unveils all-new Pure Electric SUV, C-HR+

The latest electric vehicle (EV) from Toyota, the C-HR+, is officially launched. Unlike its fuel-based counterpart, the C-HR, this new model is built on the same e-TNGA 2.0 platform as the bZ4X, with a significantly larger size and extended wheelbase of over 2750mm.

Positioned between Toyota's Urban Cruiser and bZ4X models, the C-HR+ offers dual electric motor configurations, including single and twin motor options. The maximum range is estimated to be up to 600km under ideal driving conditions. Release dates have been set for Q4 2025 in overseas markets.

Exterior Design

Featuring Toyota's latest EV design language, the new model boasts a streamlined front grille with integrated front LED lights that merge seamlessly into a single unit. Two large side LED headlights adopt an aggressive, "C" shape. The front end also includes split-screen fog lights, while the rear has split fog lights and dual peak spoiler elements, along with prominent exhaust outlets designed to optimize airflow.

The C-HR+ features a dual-tone paint job, contrasting its more understated roof hue. The vehicle's lines are distinctive, incorporating sharp creases, such as at the front windscreen and wheel arches.

Dimensions

Measuring 4520mm in length, the C-HR+ boasts considerable dimensions compared to its fuel-based predecessor. Its extended wheelbase of over 2750mm enhances stability and ground clearance further, solidifying its positioning in Toyota's lineup.

In terms of design, both rear and side views highlight its width and stance. A broad underside emphasizes its robust presence, particularly with thick front tires.

Interior

Inside, Toyota boasts cutting-edge technology through advanced instrumentation, such as a floating large touchscreen in the instrument cluster paired with button controls below. Furthermore, LED lights seamlessly create transitions between different lighting modes that can enhance safety and visibility features.

Key equipment on board includes seat heating, integrated mobile charging ports for up to two devices simultaneously, panoramic view roof sections, space adjustment mechanism for rear seats, blind spot monitoring system for enhanced safety, advanced vehicle speed management for improved traction and dynamic assistance through night driving scenes, adaptive headlights with night vision display - all contributing to what can be considered as some of the most extensive premium tech available.

Electric Motor Powertrains

C-HR+ models will provide two different motor configurations: Single electric motor, available in low power version (123kw) and high power version, meanwhile paired with a 77kWh battery pack. Twin motors on top model give combined drive capabilities for enhanced performance. With this setup, ranges of up to 525km are expected over WLTP cycling protocols under ideal conditions.

Key Technical Features

T-Mate is one such smart safety system within the new electric models incorporating Toyota's advanced driver assistance systems.

Configuration Highlights

  • Toyota Safety Sense 2 with additional monitoring features;
  • Blind-spot monitoring and parking support feature, ensuring smoother transitions while adjusting or stopping your vehicle;
