BMW Announces First Electric Model, Plans Full Electrification by 2035
BMW has announced that it will launch its first electric vehicle model, a city SUV, which will be released in 2026. The brand aims to go fully electrified by 2035, with plans to release at least one plug-in hybrid or battery-electric model each year before then, although the pace of rollout has been slowed.
The first all-electric BMW model, a new city SUV, is set to appear in the next two years. Currently under development at the Crewe plant, the dimensions are slightly smaller than the rival X1, with CEO Harald Krueger stating that this electric model aims to attract new customers who are eager for alternative energy.
A glimpse of the upcoming car has been revealed through a teaser image showcasing its distinctive styling cues inspired by the X1, with an especially prominent rear spoiler and flared wheel arches. According to BMW, future family cars will no longer come in both fossil-fueled and purely electrified variants, focusing on hybrid models instead.
The official release of electric cars will be part of a modernization plan at the Crewe facility in England, now undergoing significant development work aimed at enhancing design facilities, expanding manufacturing capacity, and boosting production efficiency for new battery-powered products.
