Baidu Announces Complexity of Upgrading Autopilot to Older Car Models
Baidu, the Chinese technology giant, has faced concerns from many car owners regarding upgrading its Autopilot system to older model cars. In response to these queries, Baidu stated that modifying Autopilot for non-advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) vehicles like the non-Tian Shen Jiye C is extremely challenging due to various design and hardware changes.
The Tian Shen Jiye C, being an advanced ADAS-equipped car, faces a tough time in terms of upgrading Autopilot technology. Unlike modern cars that utilize electronic configurations, the Tian Shen Jiye C relies on new hardware designs with distinct layouts, resulting in significant technical hurdles.
In contrast, Baidu primarily showcased its advanced Autopilot capabilities in newer models at the recent press event. By integrating cutting-edge technologies such as twelves camera modules (a combination of twelve high-resolution cameras), five mm Wave radar units, and several ultrasonic radar sensors integrated into a custom-built computing platform designed by Baidu.
The platform utilizes cutting-edge hardware components, including the Nvidia Orin N chip for its artificial intelligence processing capabilities. It also incorporates advanced cybersecurity solutions, such as Elbrus and Skywell, to enhance vehicle security and data protection during the high-speed communication process with mobile applications known as NOA.
Baidu's proprietary Scorpion Architecture or 'Glacial Framework', has been pivotal in defining an integrated intelligent electronic module within every car of Baidu. The architecture acts as a key component that endows automobiles with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities like processing and executing information with the ability to perceive, judge, analyze and respond similarly to one capable human being. By integrating this technology into its latest models, it is equipped to provide highly efficient services such as fast parking, and secure ride-hailing, among high-speed autonomous driving functionalities.
In the recently held conference about Baidu smart vehicles, officials declared the integration of "Glacial Architecture" or Scorpion framework with an innovative artificial intelligence based system called Deepseek R1 to further enhance the vehicle's AI processing capabilities.
