Toyota Prepares Electric Lexus, Eyes European Market
Aiming to Boost Sales, Toyota Plans to Introduce a Range of Electric Vehicles
Toyota is working on an electric version of its luxury brand, Lexus. According to Andrea Carlucci, head of Toyota's European sales division, the Japanese automaker intends to launch its first full-electric Lexus model at an appropriate time, but that's not happening anytime soon.
Focus on Rapid-Growing Markets
Currently, Toyota is accelerating the rollout of pure electric vehicles in some of its fastest-growing markets. The company has set its sights on compact, mid-size car and commercial vehicle markets.
In Europe, Toyota recently emerged with the Urban Cruiser, a model sharing similar dimensions to Lexus, indicating that its electrically powered counterpart will share this platform as well, which should help reduce development costs.
Electric Lexus Will Carry On the Brand's Name
According to Carlucci, future Toyota electric vehicles will retain the iconic Lexus name. The brand won't be abandoning its name to focus exclusively on electrified models.
Toyota, however, does hope that it can launch an electric version of its luxury brand sooner rather than later. With a predicted release date after 2030 expected for this new car, and other electrified offerings planned for the 2026 European market.
Additionally, Toyota plans to introduce two more SUVs and one pick-up truck with electric power tractions in 2025 for European cars only.
For now, fans of luxury are advised to stay tuned because it will be an exciting year in the world of automotive innovation.
